Because, New York Part 1

I have to document my travels as I went to NYC last week for three full days and four nights.  I mean, my dreams came true in a heart beat.  And before I forget any details, I must blog!

The traveler buried inside me was in high heaven.  I went to work on Wednesday, December 10th with my suitcase in my bug's trunk.  I could hardly focus on my tasks but knew I needed to because I would be out of my office on Thursday/Friday.  I don't even think I ate anything because I was dying of excitement!  6:00 PM rolled around and I was out that door like it was going out of style.

LAX was a dead zone which was nice.  Parked Giovanni (my bug for those of you that don't read my blog and have not officially met him, rude) in the C-Lot, which I HATE but it's the cheapest and closest option for long-term parking.  I got to my terminal and found out I couldn't upgrade to a window seat as the plane was overbooked, who over books a flight? Odd.  I was really bummed because not only was this a five hour flight, (I am used to 2 hour jaunts to Seattle people!) it was a red-eye.  Which I have done three times in my life- to Mexico, to Costa Rica, and to Florida.  All were brutal, but I of course still had a blast on those trips.  But it really throws off your whole sleeping groove for the whole trip, or for when you return home and need to sleep for ten hour nights until you're caught up.

Anyway, of course as air travel always is, my flight was delayed 1 hour because the flight before it took forever to leave the gate.  Typical!  I FINALLY boarded, I was excited and had popped TWO benadryl's so I could at least try and sleep, even though I was in a middle seat (UGHHHH).  I love air travel, but I hate it at the same time.  So I got all situated in my dreaded but surprisingly spacious middle seat, I even started a movie! 'Maleficent' that I had been wanting to see since it was out in theatre (for movie buffs...it was good, but not great).  Then I see some people eyeing my aisle, and they are together.  My inside self does a cartwheel! If they are together I can switch to the window or the aisle! And sure enough, they asked me to switch.  Delighted I moved to the aisle, still no wall for me to lean my head on but my own space and I could get up as needed.

Finally, as my ears perked up and the captain announced that it was currently 27 degrees in New York and lightly snowing and we would be landing at JFK around 7AM EST, I put my headphones on and continued my movie.  I would pause it & doze in and out of sleep and then I would continue it.  I finished it in three and a half hours because of my constant pausing and sleeping!  I then watched 'Heaven is For Real' which was so good and literally the moment the plane touched down, the credits rolled.  It couldn't have been more perfect.  My phone updated and suddenly I was on New York time, in New YORK CITY! I was screaming inside.  Get me off this damn plane!!!  JFK was also a dead zone, so Thursdays must be good times to fly?  Anyway, retrieved my luggage and started texting the friends I would be meeting up with that I HAD ARRIVED! And my worried mother who's sub-conscience woke her up at 4:00 AM Seattle time to text me to be certain I had landed safely.  My suitcase rolled around, always a relief as I never check luggage, but hello, I had to because, New York!

I then got to do what I have always wanted to do.  Just go outside and breathe New York air and get into a New York Cab.  That I did, for the next 2 hours!

Fem

I am no feminist, or at least not an activist for feminism, but I just read the most interesting article.  Someone started a tweet chat where they asked men 16 questions of situations that women experience nearly on the daily- down to texting your friend that you got home safely, because this legitimately is something that women have to do.  It was so interesting to me to see how these things are actually ever present in my everyday life. Being a woman- means you DO have to watch your back, you do have to carry pepper spray, or even a small knife with you.  It means walking on streets late at night that there is a chance for something bad to happen. It means that people can blame your emotions on "that time of the month." THIS is a big one for me.  I am allowed to be upset, cry, or express anything I want via tears or with haste if it is upsetting, and NO it doesn't mean it's that time of the month. It means there is a chance that your ideas at work may be look...

A Little Sap

My biggest fear is that I will forget my memories. Whether they be fond, happy, sad, angry, or confusing memories, I don't want to forget them. Hence the reason one blogs perhaps?  Definitely one of the several reasons why I re-started blogging.   Since October my life has been such a cluster.  A blurred-together-all-in-one-cloud--- life.  I can't differentiate what I did in November with what I did in February.  That is not said negatively.  I have enjoyed every moment, adventure, conversation, dinner, drink, walk, hike, drive, experience and discovery that I have encountered.   Someone said to me the other day, "don't just survive, live."  And then I realized, I am living, even though it may look like I am just surviving sometimes.  Although I look at my life and think, I am 28, I live in a tiny studio apartment with no parking, I have a Los Angeles address, I have no significant other, I don't have 35 different friends to hang ...

glitter & spark

Currently...in the process of creating my own website.  Don't know it's purpose, don't know why, but it seems like something fun to do with my spare time and it also gives me a need to purchase a computer (besides that I do actually blog, and my job entails blogging now, hello tax write-off!) so I hope in Feb. to walk into an Apple store and get myself a macbook. Anyway beside that- I am currently brainstorming domain names. I obviously need to work Glitter in there, because, of who I am as a person.  If you don't know me...just imagine that everything in my house including my clothes and shoes, has some sort of glimmer, shimmer, sparkle, sequin, rhinestone, or glitter involved.  And out of all those, glitter is my favorite word to describe it. Secondly- I am a spark, my mom has called me sparky, or a spark my whole life.  I can be a smart ass, a bitch, a dry individual, (don't worry I am also sweet).  My comebacks can be delayed but when they do happen, ...
